Pathogenesis of "senile" nodular sclerosis of atrio-ventricular valves.

چکیده
Nodular thickening of the atrio-ventricular valves may be conspicuous in the hearts of the elderly. Usually described as senile sclerosis, it is assumed to be an involutional or degenerative process associated with advanced age. The difficulty of distinguishing such changes from the results of other pathological conditions which may have been present earlier in life is well recognized (Gould, 1960), and some workers attribute these changes to

Prolonged Atrio-Ventricular Block Following Scorpion Bite: A Case Report
This report describes a 55-year-old woman in whom yellow scorpion sting resulted in the development of Mobitz type 1 and transient complete heart blocks unresponsive to atropine administration. It might be concluded that although autonomic involvement including parasympathetic overactivity is present in such cases, other factors such as toxic damage to the cardiac conduction system may play a ...

Is 'On the Heart' using the discovery which Galen emphatically attributes to Erasistratus, and to no-one else, but using it only in part? This question prompts a further one: what was the real nature of Erasistratus' discovery? References to Erasistratus ...
متن کاملThe Common Cardiac Ventricle with Transposition of the Great Vessels.
The physician dealing with congenital cardiac disease is not unlikely to be confronted with cases in which there is an abnormal relation between the great vessels (transposition). In analysing such a case, he attempts to determine whether or not there is some obstruction to pulmonary flow, and furthermore whether or not two ventricles are present, and, if so, which artery arises from which vent...
متن کاملAge-associated aortic stenosis in apolipoprotein E-deficient mice.
OBJECTIVES The present study was designed to assess aortic valve morphology and function in mice of advanced age. We also evaluated the potential contribution of bone-marrow-derived cells to the pathogenesis of aortic stenosis. BACKGROUND Age-associated valvular degeneration is characterized by lipid accumulation, collagen deposition, and calcification containing smooth muscle-like cells and ...
